Laboratory Technician, Waste to Materials

About the role

We are looking for a Laboratory Technician with hands on working experience in biological and/or chemical process development in laboratory and pilot scale to join our Waste to Materials program in Circular Solutions Business. You will be planning and performing experiments and campaigns on different biological processes at our state-of-the-art containerized laboratory located at our Waste-to-Energy plant in Riihimäki Finland. You will be running and monitoring aerobic and anaerobic fermentations reactors of different scale.  During the operation, you need to collect samples and performing various laboratory analyses. Your work will transform the Waste-to-Energy sector by recycling the CO2 emissions of waste incineration and turning them into CO2-based, fossil-free materials and feedstock.  

You will be part of a dynamic and agile organization with experienced colleagues with a diverse background in technology and circular economy. You will be working in close cooperation with different stakeholders including technology suppliers, project partners, as well as other internal and external stakeholders. Your workplace is at our Riihimäki site and remote working is not possible.

About you

You have at least a few years of experience in working with biological and chemical processes as well as a proven track record of working in a pilot facility or similar. Prior experience in project coordination or process scale-up is a valuable asset in the position. You can operate the laboratory or pilot scale reactor independently. You have good awareness and a responsible attitude towards the health, safety and environmental (HSE) aspects of your work.

Ideally, you have a laboratory technician education (AMK) or Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Biotechnology, Applied and Industrial Microbiology, Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering or similar.

We expect you to have an entrepreneurial mindset, but still a systematic and structured way of working and the ability to coordinate multiple tasks with several stakeholders at a time. We value the ability to use knowledge in new and innovative ways to develop and conceptualize new ideas towards working solutions.

You have good communication and networking skills both externally and internally. You are comfortable with working on complex projects within a large organization. Fluency in English is necessary, Finnish and Swedish are considered as an advantage.
