LUT Business School is seeking a motivated doctoral researcher to join its Supply Management team, part of a dynamic international research group, where you will explore sustainable purchasing and supply management and develop deep expertise in the field.
Our Supply Management team is one of the biggest in Europe in the field of purchasing and supply management. This award-winning team is highly research-oriented and offers an excellent environment for junior researchers to develop their research expertise.
What your work will be like
As a junior (doctoral) researcher, you will work as part of an active international research team, conducting independent research under the guidance of your supervisors and participating in joint research activities within the group. The research will focus on sustainable, circular, or regenerative purchasing and supply management, with the primary goal of completing a doctoral degree within four years.
The role also includes assisting in teaching activities, and you may also have the opportunity to participate in research projects. You are expected to spend approximately six months at Jönköping University during your studies and engage in international collaboration with leading research partners. Performing the duties of this position requires readiness to travel, including research visits abroad as part of your doctoral studies at LUT University.
What we expect from you
The position requires a master's degree in a relevant field (e.g., purchasing, supply management, supply chain management, operations management) and the ability to complete the doctoral degree within the normative duration of the studies. You may be a recent graduate or have some relevant experience; most importantly, you should demonstrate strong motivation and commitment to high-quality research.
Strong written and spoken proficiency in English is required. You should have a basic knowledge of supply management or supply chain management and interest in researching sustainable, circular, or regenerative purchasing and supply management. You will need have good knowledge of qualitative and quantitative research methods. You should also be able to work independently, communicate effectively, and collaborate well within an international research environment.
A junior researcher must apply for the right to complete doctoral studies at the LUT Doctoral School within the first two months of the appointment.

You will receive encouraging supervision in collaboration with Professor Katrina Lintukangas and Associate Professor Jenny Bäckstrand (Jönköping University).
The job is based at the Lappeenranta campus. Hybrid work arrangements are available, with regular presence required at the campus.
The employment relationship will start with a one-year term (including a six-month trial period) and may be extended for up to three additional years, depending on the progress of your studies and research.
The work will begin in early 2026. The hours are flexible, supporting work-life balance. In accordance with the collective agreement for Finnish universities, the position follows the system of 1,612 annual working hours.
The salary is determined according to the Finnish university salary system for teaching and research staff (requirement level 1). The starting salary is approximately EUR 2,780 per month, depending on experience and qualifications.
