Doctoral Researcher in the field of cell biology / functional genetics

Simon Pfisterer's research group at University of Helsinki, Finland, (https://www.pfistererlab.org/) is looking for a PhD student who is interested in elucidating the functional cellular consequences of genetic variants at scale. The position is supported by consortium funding from European grants.

Who we are: We are an international and dynamic research group, using automated systems to investigate cellular mechanisms underlying endosomal receptor trafficking and how alterations in this process relate to major human diseases, especially hypercholesterolemia. To achieve this goal, we combine open-source robotic tools with cutting-edge laboratory technologies such as CRISPR mediated gene editing, automated microscopy, and image analysis. Moreover, we integrate cellular readouts with genetic information from large population studies such as the UK Biobank.

What are we looking for: The group is integrating cell biological and biochemical methods with bioinformatics and open-source robotics. We are curiosity driven and like to discover something new every day. Interested candidates should have good communication skills and like to combine various skill sets to enter new research directions. Experience in cell culture, molecular biology and python programming are important.

The ideal candidate has an MSc degree in a field of cell biology or bioinformatics, but applicable other degrees are also considered. Appointee should either already have the right to pursue a doctoral degree at the University of Helsinki by the start of the appointment or apply for the right and obtain it within the probationary period of 3- 6 months of their appointment.
