Project Manager, Building

The Engineering and Projects operations are responsible for implementing Fortum's nuclear power projects. We are technology experts working on demanding tasks related to plant operations and maintenance at our own and co-owned nuclear power plants, employing around 150 top professionals. Engineering and Projects is responsible for providing technical expertise and deliver projects for Loviisa nuclear power plant, co-owned assets, external customers, research and development activities, as well as serving other stakeholders, as the Hydrogen Business.

About the role

We are building a team of experts for hydrogen business. Your position will be in Engineering and Projects in Generation division and you will be working mainly for hydrogen projects led by the Hydrogen team. Your main role will be to act as a Project manager / Building in delivering our civil engineering related scope in large projects. You will be the expert of your discipline in hydrogen applications, supporting the hydrogen team in project development and execution. Geographically, as the Nordics is our main focus, your locations will be Espoo, but frequent site visits to other Nordic countries are expected.

As Project manager / Building you will be working in a project team, as responsible for civil engineering scope during the implementation and execution of investment and delivery projects for our clients. You will be primarily operating in the Hydrogen Business area. Based on the need, delivering projects/civil related scope for the nuclear side as well, is also possible.

You will be responsible for cooperating with the project team, including subcontractors and partners. You will be the first contact point towards our contractor’s and other stakeholders, and will be responsible for leading civil specific activities, continuously track changes, monitor and follow up the progress, schedule and project milestones, aiming to ensure project execution both commercially and technically. This role will report to Department Head, Project Management and Execution in Engineering and Projects and will be accountable towards the project organization of the Hydrogen team. In detail your tasks include the following: 

• Overall responsibility of civil scope
• Responsible for all civil related construction works from study phase to implementation
• Lead and coordinate consultant work in your discipline
• Leveraging the expertise from Engineering and Projects teams
• Gain, lead and expand Fortum's technical knowledge and competence in the civil engineering discipline, concerning Hydrogen
• Manage relations with suppliers and contractors, including technical consultants
• Support the whole Hydrogen Development team with expertise from building projects
• Provide constant feedback to all stakeholders
• Handle changes and execute claim management
• Participate in site audits, and site management activities, as needed
• Act as project manager for Building/Construction projects or sub-projects
• Act as a safety coordinator in building projects (as per need)

What we are looking for

• Master of Science or Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering,
• Ability to define civil engineering requirements contracting civil engineering contractors and building contractors and understanding of different civil disciplines (Geo, Structural, Architectural, HVAC, Electricity, Fire design and other related disciplines)
• 5+ years working experience in industrial building projects as a civil construction manager, site manager or project engineer or project manager. Experience in Hydrogen industry and/or Nuclear industry will be considered as a plus.
• Experience in supervising civil design and building work
• Knowledge of applicable guidelines, rules and standards in civil engineering area.
• Customer oriented behaviour, strong commitment to reaching targets and strong leadership characteristics
• Solid commercial knowledge and good understanding of contractual terms and conditions
• Willingness to travel
• Project Management Certification is preferred
• Knowledge of Regulatory Guides on Nuclear Safety (YVL guides) is considered as a plus
• Fluent written and spoken Finnish and English; Swedish and other languages are beneficial
