• Metropolia is hiring a full-time permanent Researcher in Mobile Robotics and Intelligent Systems for the Clean and Sustainable Solutions innovation hub at the Myyrmäki campus.
• The role involves leading RDI projects on situational awareness with mobile robots, sensors, swarm intelligence and AI, developing a testing sandbox, identifying research opportunities and applying for funding, with potential to grow into a team leader.
• Required qualifications include a doctoral degree with recent peer‑reviewed publications (within 3 years), several years of research experience in intelligent autonomous robotic systems, and practical experience applying for Horizon Europe, Business Finland or similar funding and planning project work packages.

Researcher, Mobile robotics and intelligent systems 

We are seeking a Researcher in Mobile Robotics and Intelligent Systems for a permanent fulltime position in the Clean and Sustainable Solutions innovation hub at the Metropolia Myyrmäki campus. Our innovation hub brings together Metropolia's and its partners’ expertise. We work in close collaboration with other research parties, companies, and cities. Our main activities are focused on smart mobile robotics, AI and data, urban farming, circular economy and sustainable energy systems.  

Role Description: 

You will act as a researcher in research, development and innovation projects that e.g. study situational awareness systems that rely on mobile robots, sensor systems, swarm intelligence and advanced use of data. You will also take part in building a sandbox for testing such systems. In your role you will identify new research opportunities and take part in, or take charge of, applying for funding for further research. In this position it is possible to grow into a team leader. 

What we expect: 

• Multiple years of state-of-the-art research experience in intelligent, autonomous robotic systems, including swarm intelligence and artificial intelligence in robotics.  

• Doctoral degree and recent peer reviewed publications in a relevant field (published within the last 3 years)  

• Hands-on experience in applying for Horizon Europe, Business Finland or similar funding.  

• Competence in planning work packages and tasks of a project. Preferably for projects with project partners.

Tutkija, mobiilirobotiikka ja älykkäät järjestelmät  

Etsimme mobiilirobotiikan ja älykkäiden järjestelmien tutkijaa vakituiseen tehtävään Puhtaat ja kestävät ratkaisut innovaatiokeskittymään Metropolian Myyrmäen kampukselle. Innovaatiokeskittymämme kokoaa Metropolian ja kumppaneidemme asiantuntemuksen yhteen luomaan uusia innovatiivisia ratkaisuja. Teemme tiivistä yhteistyötä muiden tutkimuslaitosten, yritysten ja kaupunkien kanssa. Toimintamme keskittyy älykkääseen mobiilirobotiikkaan, tekoälyyn ja dataan, kaupunkiviljelyyn, kiertotalouteen sekä kestäviin energiajärjestelmiin.  

Roolikuvaus:  

Toimit tutkijana TKI-projekteissa, joissa kehitetään tilannekuvaratkaisuja mobiilirobotiikkaa, sensoridataa ja edistyksellistä parvi- ja tekoälyä hyödyntäen. Osallistut myös näiden järjestelmien testausympäristöjen kehittämiseen. Roolissasi on tärkeää tunnistaa uusia tutkimusmahdollisuuksia ja osallistut, tai vastaat, jatkohankkeiden rahoituksen hakemiseen. Tässä roolissa on mahdollista myös kasvaa tiiminvetäjäksi.  

Mitä odotamme:  

• Useiden vuosien tutkimuskokemusta älykkäistä, autonomisista robottijärjestelmistä, mukaan lukien parviälyn ja tekoälyn käytöstä robotiikassa. 

• Tohtorintutkintoa ja viimeaikaisia vertaisarvioituja julkaisuja relevantilta alalta (julkaistu viimeisten 3 vuoden aikana).  

• Käytännön kokemusta Horizon Europe, Business Finland tai vastaavan rahoituksen hakemisesta  

• Kykyä suunnitella projektien työpaketteja ja niissä suoritettavia tehtäviä. Mielellään hankkeisiin, joissa on useampia projektikumppaneita. 

Mitä arvostamme:  

• Kokemusta projektien, työpakettien tai tehtäväkokonaisuuksien johtamisesta projekteissa, joissa on useita projektikumppaneita.  

• Kokemusta muiden työn johtamisesta, mutta myös halua tarttua itse toimeen.

• Hyvää kirjoitettua ja suullista englannin kieltä
