Subject Expert - Data Scientist

Our Rock Drills Business Unit is now looking for a visionary and executer Subject Expert to plan and place into action data models and algorithms regarding Rock Drill sensor technology. This is a permanent position and based in Tampere, Finland.

Sandvik Mining and Rock Solutions is the leading provider of equipment and tools as well as maintenance and technical services for the mining industry. Its products include drill rigs, mechanical mining equipment, crushers, loading and hauling equipment and material processing equipment. The Tampere plant is a global technology and manufacturing center for rock drills and drill rigs.

Your mission

As a Subject Expert, your main scope of work is related to planning and implementing algorithms as well as participating in planning drilling tests and technology development. The aim of the New Product Development activities is to widen the data product scope of our sensor technology. It includes cloud solutions, data collection systems, edge computing, and understanding the physics behind. Current Product Engineering work consists of customer interaction, customer interface ramp ups, documentation, and co-operation with various stakeholders. In this position you get to work with Sandvik top professionals and unique RockPulse® sensor technology. The focus is to create products according to Rock Drills Business Unit strategic ambitions.

Your main responsibilities will include:

  • Data sorting and quality evaluation
  • Designing and Maintaining algorithm solutions
  • Visualization of the results
  • Linking the algorithms to the needed software platforms including Simulink and cloud solutions
  • Planning the needed testing programs for the new products within responsibility area
  • Guiding SW design work
  • Participate in sensor solutions development and requirements specification
  • Customer interaction and trouble shooting

Your work will result in solutions that are easy to maintain and that provide value for our customers. The aim is to reduce the direct and related (scope 1, 2 and 3) CO2 emissions of the mining industry and at the same time increase productivity and safety. With your help, Sandvik’s drill rigs will be provided with valuable and unmatched digital solutions.

Your background

You possess a Master’s level degree in the area of data science, AI, mathematics, electromagetics, signal processing, technical physics, or equivalent field. Knowledge of Matlab and Matlab Simulink is an asset. You have experience in working with data science, AI or algorithm development. You have hands-on and innovative approach to problem solving. You possess an enthusiastic attitude to commercialization. Your customer-oriented mindset reflects to prompt actions in customer support. You can easily adapt and focus between short- and long-term activities. You are a team player with good co-operation, negotiation, and communication skills.
