Vice Principal - Pre-primary / Vararehtori varhaiskasvatukseen
Applicants must hold a recognised Early Childhood Education and Care qualification from a Finnish University; a Master's degree is preferred. Applicants must have sufficient English proficiency for an international school setting. We are seeking an experienced pre-primary educator with strong knowledge of Finnish education to support the continued development of our expanding pre-primary section. Experience across all early childhood age groups is preferred, along with international experience and a background in educational leadership. This role includes a 50% teaching commitment.
Role Overview
The Pre-Primary Vice Principal works as a teacher within the pre-primary section while supporting the smooth, consistent, and effective running of daily operations across the entire pre-primary level. The role plays a key part in strengthening pedagogy, supporting staff wellbeing, and ensuring continuity for children and families.
Key Responsibilities
- Contribute to school leadership and development as a member of the pedagogical leadership team
- Teach within the pre-primary programme with a 50% teaching load
- Model high-quality, child-centred, play-based, and inquiry-driven pedagogy
- Mentor and support teachers in their pedagogical planning, implementation, and reflection
- Promote inclusive practices and support children with diverse learning needs
- Support pedagogical documentation and assessment in line with Finnish principles
- Operational and Organisational Responsibilities
- Coordinate day-to-day operations across the pre-primary level
- Organise absence cover and daily staffing arrangements
- Oversee the ordering, availability, and appropriate use of teaching and learning materials
- Support admissions processes and student transitions into and within pre-primary
- Ensure smooth communication and collaboration across teams
- Work closely with the Principal and leadership team to ensure consistency and quality
- Contribute to a positive, inclusive, and professional school culture
- Build strong partnerships with parents through open, respectful communication
- Support whole-school wellbeing initiatives and collaborative practices
