Data Steward, Master Data
The Data Capabilities team drives business value and efficiency through data governance, BI & reporting and information management services at Veikkaus.
As a Data Steward, Master Data, you step into a unique opportunity to shape the future of master data management at Veikkaus. Many data domains are still at an early stage of maturity, giving you the possibility to design, influence and implement modern MDM practices from the ground up. This role offers a rare chance to establish scalable solutions, define ways of working and create lasting impact across the organization.
In this role, you play a crucial part in defining, implementing and continuously developing master data governance practices across Veikkaus. You ensure that business-critical master data is consistently governed, maintained and synced between systems, supporting reliable operations and strategic decision-making. You act as a domain expert, guiding business and technical stakeholders, and promoting standardized, efficient and robust master data management practices across systems and business units.
Main responsibilities:
- Master data governance & quality: Define, implement and maintain master data governance policies and standards for data domains. Ensure data consistency and integrity across systems by defining quality rules, monitoring and driving issue resolution. Collaborate with data domain communities to align on definitions, ownership and usage of master data.
- Cross-domain alignment & stewardship leadership: Lead and coordinate master data stewardship activities across domains, ensuring harmonized master data practices and resolving cross-functional dependencies. Act as a senior advisor to business and technical teams on master data topics.
- Data project & initiative support: Provide governance guidance for master data in development initiatives (e.g. implementations, integrations, MDM solutions). Ensure that master data standards and quality controls are embedded in project delivery.
- Metadata & data catalog management: Ensure master data assets are properly documented and maintained in the data catalog. Drive clarity in definitions, ownership and lineage to improve transparency and usability of master data.
- Compliance: Ensure master data handling complies with regulatory requirements (e.g. GDPR) and internal policies. Identify and mitigate risks related to data quality, duplication and inconsistency.
- Continuous improvement & enablement: Identify opportunities to improve master data processes, tools and governance. Drive the adoption of best practices and promote a culture of master data literacy and ownership across the organization.
You will thrive in this position if you have:
- A proactive and solution-oriented mindset with a strong focus on business value
- Deep understanding of master data management (MDM), data governance frameworks and master data quality principles
- At least 3 years of experience in data management and data governance (including MDM), with demonstrated ability to drive complex, cross-functional data initiatives
- Strong experience working with master data standards and managing master data across multiple systems (incl. MS MDS)
- Hands-on technical capability (e.g. SQL) to analyze, validate and understand complex data structures
- Excellent communication skills, ability to collaborate with both business and technical professionals, ability to coach data analysts and junior data professionals
- Relevant education and/or certifications in data management, information management or MDM
- Experience with data governance tools (e.g., Collibra, Atlan)
- Experience with MDM tools or related modules/functionalities
- Familiarity with cloud-based data platforms (e.g., BigQuery, Azure, AWS)
