Laboratory Technician
to join us in the multidisciplinary research unit of Biocenter Oulu. Our mission is to advance the quality of research and provide open-access research infrastructure services across eight technology platforms, including electron microscopy (EM). About the job
A Laboratory Technician position is available in the Biocenter Oulu Electron Microscopy (EM) Core Facility, focusing on various applications in biological EM. Biocenter Oulu EM Core Facility is affiliated with Research Council of Finland's roadmap for Finnish research infrastructures and EuroBioImaging ERIC facilitating the operation of research infrastructures with national and European importance. The Laboratory Technician will join the Biocenter Oulu EM Core Facility and become part of a skilled and dedicated team providing sample preparation and imaging services to local users, as well as the national and international research communities.
Main duties include:
- Preparation of biological specimens for imaging (including fixation, embedding, sectioning, and staining)
- Use of necessary laboratory methods (including preparation of buffers and staining solutions)
Additional tasks may be assigned based on the needs of the Core Facility and the skills and interests of the selected candidate.

Who are you?
In order to succeed and enjoy the position, we expect from you:

The successful applicant must hold a relevant degree (e.g., Laboratory Technician or Biomedical Laboratory Scientist).
- Fluency in both written and spoken Finnish and English
- Good computer, communication, and teamwork skills
- Good proficiency in written and spoken Finnish and English
- Ability to focus and do precision work
- A willingness to learn
We also appreciate
- Practical experience with histological methods
Salary
The position is permanent, starting on September 1st, 2026, or as soon as possible thereafter.
The salary will be based on the levels 5-6 of the demand level chart for other expert and support staff of Finnish universities. In addition, a salary component based on personal work performance will be paid (maximum of 50 % of the job-specific component). Starting gross salary will be approx. 2600-3100 € per month (before taxes). A trial period of 6 months is applied to the position.
