Your role
We are seeking a Scientist to join our Chromatography Laboratory within the Medicine Design organization. In this laboratory, we characterize and purify research molecules (e.g., SMEs, covalent binders, molecular glues) using a variety of chromatographic techniques.
Responsibilities
Your key responsibilities include maintaining, developing and improving analytical methods to support synthetic chemistry, studying the physicochemical properties of drug molecules, and contributing to process development and ways of working in collaboration with the analytical team. You will perform hands-on laboratory work, troubleshoot and resolve technical issues in a time critical manner to minimize instrument downtime. Ability to prioritize tasks is crucial. You will communicate with laboratory assistants in their daily tasks. You are expected to be present on-site.
This role involves close collaboration with data engineers as well as synthetic and formulation departments, to whom you will provide analytical insights on research compounds.
You will be located in Espoo, Finland, and will report to the Head of Structural Biology and Analytics. This is a full-time, permanent, and on-site position.
What you can expect from us
We offer an interesting, challenging, and diverse position in analytical chemistry. You will work with a wide range of analytical systems alongside an experienced and supportive team.
At Orion, your work creates true impact and well-being for our customers, patients and society at large. Our culture of friendliness, respect, mutual appreciation and diversity creates a safe working environment where you can strive for excellence. What are we looking for?
To succeed in this position, you should have a solid and broad understanding of chromatographic methods and instrumentation (e.g., U/HPLC, LC‑MS, SFC, LC‑HR‑MS). Strong expertise in small‑molecule mass spectrometry, including HRMS expertise, is also required.
Knowledge of the drug development process, physicochemical properties of drug candidates, ADME processes, pharmacokinetics, or experience in purification techniques is considered an advantage. Expertise in analytical software (e.g., ACD/Labs, Empower, MassLynx, OpenLynx), laboratory automation (e.g. in liquid handling, sample transportation), and office or data‑analysis tools such as Excel or KNIME is also beneficial.
We are looking for a team player with enthusiasm for learning and development. Strong problem‑solving skills, creativity, and an organized working style are key to success in this role. Communication skills across disciplines and ability to maintain composure during peak workloads or urgent situation is necessary.
Fluency in English is required and Finnish is a plus. A suitable educational background is a PhD in analytical/organic chemistry or a related field, or a Master's degree and extensive field experience.
