Mechanical Engineer, Lifecycle Solutions

Join us and take your career to the next level

We're looking for a Mechanical Engineer, Lifecycle Solutions who is ready to turn innovative engineering concepts into smart, scalable mechanical and modernization solutions for our world-leading cargo handling equipment.

In this role, you won't just be drawing parts - you'll be an architect of the next generation of logistics. By joining the Kalmar Modernisation Services (KMS) team, you will bridge the gap between heavy Horizontal Transport engineering and strategic customer delivery projects. It's a front-row seat to how global container handling fleets are modernized, serviced, and optimized, giving you the platform to turn engineering excellence into solutions that drive our customers' success.

If you are eager to put your mechanical design skills to the test in a supportive, future-focused environment, we'd love to meet you!

This position is located in Tampere, Finland, with flexible hybrid working possibilities.

What are your key responsibilities:

  • Mechanical Design & Engineering: Design and develop mechanical components, complex structures, and systems for horizontal products within customer delivery projects.

  • Sales Support & Tailored Engineering: Find and develop high-quality, tailored engineering solutions to meet complex, unique customer requirements for existing container handling equipment.

  • Cross-Functional Synergy: Work closely with a team of talented engineers to co-create, iterate, and implement completely new, high-quality design solutions.

  • Safety & Compliance: Ensure all custom modifications and mechanical designs rigidly meet all relevant international safety standards and regulatory requirements.

  • Technical Support & Mentorship: Provide high-level technical support to our manufacturing and assembly teams, as well as other internal and external stakeholders.

  • Continuous Innovation: Keep up to date with the latest engineering technologies and trends, bringing a "can-do" enthusiasm toward modern green and digital tech.

What we offer you:

  • Rewards that truly count: Enjoy meaningful rewards that support your everyday life and well-being, including a company mobile phone, a flexible Edenred benefit for lunch, commuting, or wellness services, and comprehensive healthcare through Mehiläinen, enhanced by our health insurance fund for additional coverage and peace of mind.

  • Safety that moves us forward: Build your career with a company rooted in safety since the 1940s, ensuring stability and an environment that empowers you to speak and be heard.

  • Work-life balance: We prioritise work-life balance, providing flexible working hours and a hybrid work model tailored to meet both your needs and those of your team.

  • Purpose that drives change: You'll contribute to solutions that transform global trade, creating environmental and operational innovations. You'll be in the driver's seat of ideas, developing digital technologies that set industry standards and position us as the forerunner.

  • People who move together: You'll collaborate with people who build lasting relationships through global expertise, connections, and a commitment to sustainability.

Become part of our global network of 5,200 professionals across 120+ countries, where your work drives innovation, sustainability, and meaningful impact around the world.

What you bring to the role:

  • Academic Foundation: A University degree (B.Sc. or M.Sc.) in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical field.

  • Professional Launchpad: Minimum 3 years of professional working experience in a relevant heavy machinery or structural engineering field.

  • Digital Proficiency & CAD Mastery: Hands-on experience with modern mechanical design software (specific knowledge of CATIA V5 is considered a distinct advantage).

  • Technical Expertise: Specialized engineering knowledge in at least some of the following fields:

    • Heavy welded steel structures

    • Walkways for cranes or heavy mobile equipment

    • Mobile equipment engineering (power units/diesel or hybrid engines, hydraulics, cabins, brakes and steering, or HVAC systems)

  • Collaborative Communication: Strong interpersonal and networking skills, with a proven team-player attitude and the ability to communicate clearly and effectively in Finnish and English (written and spoken).

  • Commitment to Precision & Drive: A self-driven working style with high standards for data integrity and structural accuracy, combined with a positive "can-do" mindset and a true enthusiasm for new technologies.
