Assistant/associate/full professor of building physics and materials

The LUT School of Energy Systems is launching its new Department of Civil Engineering in 2026. The focus areas of the new department are technology-driven growth, business model transformation, and infrastructure resilience. The professorship of building physics and materials will be located at LUT's Lahti campus, Finland. You will focus on advancing innovative materials, structures, and solutions that improve building performance and support the transition toward regenerative use of natural resources.
You should have demonstrated expertise in at least one of the following fields of construction technology:
- building physics; heat and moisture transfer in structures
- construction materials; new material solutions and material development
- wood, steel, concrete, or composite structures
- structural analysis and design
- hybrid solutions especially for renovation
- integration of structures and systems
- structural solutions affecting energy efficiency.

The professorship will be filled through an open application process, with a fixed four-year term for the assistant/associate professor level or a permanent appointment for the full professor level. A six-month trial period applies.

The salary is determined according to the salary system for university teaching and research personnel. The pay will include an individual pay component based on performance and competence. The gross annual salary of an assistant/associate professor ranges from 50,500 to 68,000 euros and a full professor from 70,000 to 104,800 euros, depending on the qualifications and experience of the candidate.

- a separate list of maximum of the 10 publications selected for expert evaluation
- the 10 publications mentioned above
- a teaching portfolio or an equivalent account of the applicant's teaching qualifications, presenting courses taught by the applicant, related feedback, the applicant's pedagogical training and teaching philosophy, and courses that the applicant can or prefers to teach
- an account of the applicant's merits and activities of significance to the vacancy (max. 3 pages)
- an account of the applicant's vision on the development of education, research and projects in the field of the professorship at LUT University (max. 3 pages).
