To be prepared for the transformation, regulators and grid operators are developing the requirements and novel market mechanisms. The Power Systems team has the invaluable role to ensure Wärtsilä’s market position, competitiveness and compliance to regulation and requirements worldwide. We do this by our expertise in power systems, grid code requirements and modelling and simulation.
We are looking for a Senior Development Engineer, Power Systems to bring expertise in power systems, modelling and simulations and grid code requirements.
The Senior Development Engineer, Power Systems will be reporting to the General Manager, Power Systems. Preferred location is Vaasa, Finland, but also Wärtsilä locations in Helsinki or Turku can be considered.
Key Responsibilities
As a Senior Development Engineer, Power Systems you will
- Assess power plant performance, interpret global grid code requirements, and analyse test results to ensure Wärtsilä engine power plants achieve regulatory compliance and expected operational performance.
- Develop power system models for Wärtsilä’s synchronous engine power plant solutions and perform simulations with them using tools such as PowerFactory and PSCAD.
- Collaborate with the team in development activities, measurement campaigns or technical project and sales support cases as part of your daily activities.
- Develop and improve ways of working by applying tools such as Python automation and AI.
Required Qualifications
Education
Master's degree or higher in Power Engineering or a closely related field
Experience
Minimum of 3 years of experience in working with grid code requirements, power system modelling and simulations.
Core competencies
- Analytical mindset and ability to distinguish relevant information
- Ability to collaborate in a team and support other team members
- Ability to translate and explain complex technical topics in a clear and understandable way for non-technical audiences
- Experience using Python or similar tools and practical application of AI in engineering workflows.
- Fluent written and spoken English

- Experience with power system control, stability and design
- Ability to write concise reports
- Ability to work in a consultative manner with internal and external stakeholders and Experience with synchronous machines
