Business Developer - Shipbuilding

What's the role about

Business Developer is a technical sales role, forming part of the global Hilti Business Development community. You will be responsible of executing strategy to increase adoption of Hilti solutions with identified accounts and selected projects. You will play an important role, coordinating with local and global teams associated with Shipbuilding segment. Organizationally you will be part of Northern Europe E&I Team with team members across Nordics and Great Britain.

As a Business Developer you will proactively develop business opportunities through a selected portfolio of accounts and projects involved in Shipbuilding industry. Your main focus will be on Shipyards, Turnkey Contractors and Specifier accounts operating in the segment.

What You'll do

In the role you will be responsible and accountable for:

Account development:

  • Development of Shipyards, Turnkey Contractors and Specifier accounts operating in the segment through account standardization, project specifications and solutions, sales development (direct or indirect) and multi-level relationship management.
  • Developing the strategy of the assigned accounts and segment game plans. Leading your strategy upfront with internal stakeholders such as local direct sales teams and global segment experts.


Segment Specific Construction Projects:

  • Secure specifications for major projects, ensuring Hilti technology is positioned as the preferred solution
  • Building and having ownership of segment project pipeline identifying largest business opportunities for Hilti in selected projects.
  • Together with local sales teams, creating and implementing strategy for most important project sites


Overall Segment Development:

  • Develop strong industry expertise in applications, technologies, and project environments
  • Bringing market intelligence inputs to the teams to confirm and/or update account and project strategies.
  • Other duties as assigned


Flexibility to travel within Finland to visit customers in person is a must. Travelling abroad when needed.

What You'll Bring

  • Previous experience with working on Shipbuilding projects or Industrial Construction projects
  • Ideally MSc/BSc degree in commercial, naval, mechanical or civil engineering.
  • Minimum of two years of experience working with engineering firms, major accounts, EPCs, field engineering, sales management, business development, or equivalent
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and execute long-term account strategies for complex customers
  • Knowledge of shipbuilding industry and applications is preferred
  • Business development/sales experience for engineered products or sales of technical solutions.
  • Excellent communication skills and creation of trust through active listening.
  • Working in matrix organization - influencing via leadership, not via authority.
  • High motivation, customer focus, and a continuous improvement mindset in a fast-paced, results-driven environment
  • Ability to influence a wide range of technical and commercial stakeholders
  • Ability to work self-driven and autonomously by creating own planning and tasks to reach the targets.
  • Senior relationship management: Capable and confident while speaking to senior and C-level customers in Finnish and English.
  • Project management capabilities: Manage complexity of system selling across multiple geographies, functions and customers.
  • Networking skills (internal and external) with confidence while working within a matrix
