The Air Systems function develops and delivers air systems for packaging and paper industry. Our solutions help customers increase productivity, reduce operating costs, save energy, and improve quality. We work closely with other Valmet businesses, providing expert support and driving joint development. Our main location is in Raisio, Finland.
We are now looking for a Development Engineer to join our Technology team. In this role you will carry out demanding research and product development projects related to board and paper machine technology, supporting both customers and Valmet organization by acting as an expert in process technology matters. Your tasks and responsibilities will include process modeling, such as board, paper and coating drying modeling, and developing and maintaining related simulation and dimensioning software. You will carry out measurements and process analyses at customer machines, to solve problems occurring in them and to improve the operation and efficiency of the machines. You will carry out dimensioning of drying solutions, heat recovery and other processes in customer projects.
In case the chosen applicant already would have proven expertise in the aforementioned fields, then a title of Senior Development Engineer would be applied.
Key Responsibilities

Conducts and manages R&D projects targeting for safe and competitive product portfolio.

Innovates, develops and tests new ideas and prototypes for processes and concepts. Taking care of needed IPR actions.

Plans, runs and reports pilot trials for customers and R&D projects.

Plans and executes development investments for pilot facilities and prototype testing arrangements.

Participate in product management work by maintaining instructions and documents

Handles quality and improvement feedbacks.

Collects and analyzes customer and competitor information

Gives technical support for delivery project engineering and for other internal stakeholders.
Expectations for you
We appreciate your results-oriented and customer-focused mindset. You are innovative, skilled and enthusiastic about problem solving. Ventilation or board and paper making process knowledge is seen as an advantage. To succeed in this work, you also need good presentation and influencing skills.

Preferably Master's, minimum Bachelor's degree in a suitable technical field (e.g. process engineering)

Experience in research and development and understanding of product management

Customer-focused mindset, with good teamwork and communication skills

Independent and proactive working style

Ability and willingness to travel occasionally (~20-60 days a year)

Fluent in English (written and spoken); other language skills are a plus.
