We are seeking a Head of Material Engineering who will be accountable for leading the material engineering team, focusing on building wear excellence across the Consumables (CNS) business area. This includes ownership of material standards, centralized knowledge, and technical authority for wear solutions.
As Head of Material Engineering, you are accountable for overseeing the technical execution of development activities, guiding innovation scouting, and driving external collaborations. You ensure engineering discipline, technical excellence, long‑term capability building, and compliance with governance requirements. You maintain the long‑term roadmap for material development and align plans with business requirements and technology goals. This role reports to the Head of CNS Technology.
What you'll do
- Lead and develop a team of Material Engineers specializing in wear part materials (rubber, polymers, metals)
- Own material standards, specifications, and centralized knowledge with a focus on wear excellence
- Oversee technical execution of material development activities and ensure engineering discipline and technical excellence
- Drive innovation scouting and external collaborations with research institutions, suppliers, and universities in advanced wear materials
- Provide technical authority and guidance for material selection, performance optimization, and failure analysis in wear applications
- Ensure compliance with governance policies, regulatory requirements, and quality standards for wear parts
- Prepare documentation and technical evidence for gate reviews, audits, and compliance checks
- Align wear material engineering efforts with project needs, business requirements, and long‑term technology strategy
Who you are
- Advanced expertise in material science and engineering (rubber, polymers, metals)
- Strong track record in material innovation, standards development, and compliance
- Several years of experience in wear part materials and understanding of wear mechanisms in minerals and aggregates processing
- Ability to lead technical teams and collaborate with stakeholders in Technology, Business Lines, and Supply Chain
- Experience in external collaboration with research institutions, suppliers, and regulatory bodies
- Good communication skills, both orally and in writing, fluent in English
- Ability to make decisions and provide authoritative guidance on wear material solutions
- Cooperative mindset with strong influencing skills and ability to build trust across the organization
- Strong hands‑on mentality and working style with a mindset to drive results and deliver
