Measurement Technology Specialist

We are now looking for a Measurement Technology Specialist in the field of applied optical measurement technology. Your responsibilities in this position are related to applied optics and measurement technology in the pulp, paper and wastewater industry. In your role you will be formulating both long-term and short-term technology incentives to meet the requirements of process automation: designing, building, testing and verifying optical devices for industrial environment. You have understanding of the propagation of light in water-fiber(cellulose) suspensions and thus possess knowledge of light behavior in turbid substances. You have an innovative, unbiased mindset and are able to develop your research findings into real products as a part of an R&D team.

Valmet Automation is a leading supplier of automation solutions for customers in the pulp and paper industries, power generation, marine automation and process industries. This position is in the R&D of Analyzers, Measurements and Performance solutions.

In your role as a member of R&D you will

  • Contribute the applied optics research and development with selected strategic initiatives
  • Create roadmaps for your area of technology ownership
  • Take care of product quality aspects in your area of technology ownership
  • Participate in IPR activities, such as invention disclosing and patent reviews and evaluations
  • Be able to convert your research findings/demands into actual design specifications, for example defining opto-mechanical requirements

Our ideal candidate

  • Has a Master's degree or higher
  • Has studied optical measurement technology, applied optics and/or optical spectroscopy, competence in optics simulation tools and Matlab is beneficial
  • Has good communication skills
  • Is fluent in Finnish and English, both oral and written
  • Has HSE certifications
  • Knowledge or work experience in pulp, paper, power and/or automation industry is seen as an asset

You have a natural ambition to work with measurement technology and the inspiration to implement it into real technological excellence in pulp and paper industry automation. You have solid experience of converting your research findings into practice and into documentation. You are a team player with the ability to also work independently towards set targets in close co-operation with the R&D Team and other internal and external stakeholders.

You will be working in the Kajaani office Kajaani Time Zone 26/7 (with more than 100 other Valmeteers), as one of the about 30 product development team members. However, Tampere, Jyväskylä or Oulu are negotiable.
