Technical Chapter Lead

We're looking for an energetic, hands‑on Technical Chapter Lead to help build and evolve our digital channel services that power first‑class self‑service experiences for our customers.

About the Role

We're seeking a hands‑on Technical Chapter Lead who blends deep technical expertise with genuine people leadership. You'll carry two core responsibilities:

1) People & Chapter Leadership

  • Lead and support a chapter of developers, fostering growth, well‑being, and technical excellence.
  • Coach developers in modern engineering practices and be a role model for If values.
  • Shape a positive, inclusive engineering culture that values learning, craftsmanship, and outcomes.

2) Agile Delivery & Technical Leadership

  • Your agile role depends on your skillset and ambition. You can be a key a technical contributor as a Delivery Lead, Senior Developer in one of our cross‑functional agile squads or Tribe level, collaborating with Product Owners, Scrum Masters, and fellow Chapter Leads.
  • Regardless of your agile role you will drive the technical direction for digital channel services: from solution design and API architecture to cloud, DevOps, and front‑end foundations.
  • You will ensure high‑quality deliveries by promoting AI-driven development, test automation, CI/CD, secure development, code reviews, and continuous improvement.

What You'll Do

  • Guide architectural decisions for .NET/C# backends and RESTful APIs running on Azure.
  • Contribute code and reviews across backend and frontend (when needed), ensuring performance, reliability, and security.
  • Build and evolve Azure‑hosted services (e.g., App Services, Functions, Storage, API Management) and integrate with internal/external APIs.
  • Support front‑end teams using React, Next.js, TypeScript/JavaScript (and occasionally Razor where applicable).
  • Champion DevOps practices (CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, infrastructure‑as‑code) and observability.
  • Partner with business stakeholders to refine requirements and translate complex topics into actionable plans.

What You Need to Succeed

Technical Skills (hands‑on)

  • .NET / .NET Core and C#
  • RESTful API design & implementation
  • Azure cloud services (e.g., App Services, Functions, Storage, API Management)
  • DevOps practices & pipelines (Git‑based workflows, CI/CD, automated testing)
  • Modern web development: React and Next.js (TypeScript/JavaScript)
  • Solid understanding of software craftsmanship and ability to coach developers

Nice to have (plus):

  • ASP.NET MVC / Web API, Razor
  • SQL Server, Entity Framework, or NoSQL
  • HTML/CSS (e.g., Tailwind CSS)
  • Experience integrating third‑party services via APIs
  • Familiarity with GitHub, pull requests, code reviews, pair programming
  • Exposure to GitHub Copilot or other AI coding assistants

Leadership & Collaboration

  • Experience leading or co‑leading a development team (e.g., Tech Lead, Lead Developer, Solution Architect).
  • Strong communication skills; able to simplify complexity into clear decisions and plans.
  • Continuous improvement mindset-eager to develop yourself and others.
  • Fluent in English (spoken and written).
  • Relevant university degree (or equivalent experience).

Our Tech Environment

  • Backend: .NET, C#, RESTful APIs
  • Frontend: React, Next.js, TypeScript/JavaScript (and some Razor)
  • Cloud: Microsoft Azure
  • DevOps: Git workflows, CI/CD (e.g., GitHub Actions/Azure DevOps), test automation, monitoring/observability
  • Data: SQL Server, Entity Framework (plus NoSQL where relevant)

About the Team

Our web applications provide modern, appealing self‑service for customers to manage insurance, claims, and payments. Teams are customer‑focused, continuously improving and adding new functionality. Alongside web experiences, we also create APIs used by other services, including our mobile apps.

You'll work with a cross‑functional agile team spanning Espoo (Keilaniemi), Turku and Riga, -a relaxed, supportive, and ambitious group continuously improving how we work. You'll also be part of a wider community of developers and Lead Developers.

  • Employment type: Permanent, full‑time
  • Location: Espoo (Keilaniemi) or Turku
  • Start: By agreement
