Job description
Do you want to develop cutting-edge solutions for sustainable and green AI factories and supercomputers?
At CSC, we offer unparalleled growth opportunities, a supportive and inclusive environment, and the chance to work on the future of research and learning. Join us today!
We are looking for a Digital Twin Specialist to develop a digital twin model for supercomputers and their operating environment. You will work in our RDI project in Kajaani, Finland, in close cooperation with CSC's HPC and data center experts, and our project partners University of Oulu and Kajaani University of Applied Sciences.
The position is fixed-term until 31.12.2027 and based in Kajaani. Remote work options are negotiated separately.
CSC is a well-recognized actor in international HPC domain. CSC hosts a pre-exascale supercomputer EuroHPC LUMI in Kajaani and is currently in a planning phase for a LUMI AI supercomputer, which will be operational in 2027 in Kajaani. As one the most sustainable HPC operators and active member of local Kajaani Data Center Ecosystem (https://kdce.fi), CSC is continuously supporting and implementing new solutions for energy-efficient and low carbon HPC infrastructure and data centre operations. Digital twins are seen as an important technology to model, plan and optimise, not only the core supercomputer operations with cooling, load and power factors, but also the external layers with available energy sources and their costs, and how all previous affect to the production of excess heat.
As a Digital Twin Specialist you will get familiar with ExaDigiT (https://exadigit.github.io/), an open digital twin framework for supercomputers, and test LUMI infrastructure and operations modelling with the framework. You will then expand the framework and digital twin with needed modules to support the modelling of energy and excess heat related part of the data centre. In your role, you will get familiar and follow HPC and data centre research and technologies.
CSC cooperates internationally with many partners, and as ExaDigiT is also developed through international collaboration, so we expect you to be ready for occasional travel and active participation in technical meetings, virtual calls, and collaborative documentation processes.
Key Responsibilities in the role are:
-
Modelling and testing ExaDigiT with EuroHPC LUMI supercomputer data
-
Planning and implementing extensions and modifications to ExaDigit, especially for energy usage, cooling, and excess heat simulation and optimization.
-
Actively participating in the joint RDI project and the daily cooperation with project members and partner
What we expect
To be successful on the role, you need:
-
M.Sc. degree in relevant field (e.g. Engineering or Computer Science)
-
Strong interest towards HPC and data centre technologies, research and industry
-
Demonstrated practical skills in software development with Python and other tools and technologies in Linux environment
-
Have experience in at least one of the following topics:
-
Digital twin technologies
-
Systems or process simulations and modelling
-
Data centres
