Join us in advancing the packaging and paper business, as we move forward with our renewed strategy to Lead the Way. This means pioneering smarter technologies, expanding our service capabilities, and delivering customer value across the entire lifecycle-from raw material to finished product. If you're ready to make a real impact in a dynamic, future-focused environment, we invite you to grow with us.
We are now looking for a dynamic General Maintenance Manager to join our team!
As our General Maintenance Manager, Mill Maintenance Operations (MMO) you will take the lead in securing safe, compliant, and high‑performing Mill Maintenance Operations that align with Valmet standards, customer expectations, and national HSE requirements. You'll play a key role in fulfilling our Mill Maintenance Operations Agreement obligations and ensuring customer satisfaction by maximizing equipment availability, reliability, and operational stability - always within the agreed budget.
In this role, you combine deep maintenance expertise with strong, hands‑on leadership and solid financial ownership. You will drive the development and standardization of maintenance processes, ensure seamless integration with production operations, and support customers in risk assessment and regulatory compliance. At the same time, you will lead troubleshooting efforts, guide root cause analyses, and champion continuous improvement initiatives that enhance reliability, optimize costs, and elevate overall mill performance. Most importantly, you'll inspire your team to grow, innovate, and succeed - building capabilities, strengthening collaboration, and creating a culture where operational excellence and customer value go hand in hand. Your location will be Kauttua, Finland.
What you will do in the role
- Champion HSE Excellence: Lead by example and inspire an uncompromising commitment to safety across the entire team.
- Create Outstanding Customer Value: Deliver top‑tier maintenance services that elevate the customer's operations and strengthen long‑term partnerships.
- Build Strong Customer Relationships: Become a trusted partner who understands customer needs and creates solutions that truly matter.
- Lead with Purpose: Energize and guide a team of skilled maintenance professionals. Encourage bold thinking, smart experimentation, fast learning, and a culture where progress beats perfection.
- Drive Maintenance Development: Push continuous improvement and jointly shape future‑proof maintenance practices with our customers.
- Own the Numbers: Take full responsibility for budgets, KPI's, and managing the costs of the operations - ensuring operational excellence and sustainable profitability.
- Grow Your Team: Nurture talent, build competence, and empower people to take ownership, act with confidence, and deliver exceptional results.
- Boost Process Innovation: Introduce impactful new initiatives, refine processes, and champion a culture of continuous improvement and operational brilliance.
- Steer Resources Smartly: Manage subcontractors and coordinate the right resources for shutdowns, replacements, and major interventions.
To succeed in this role, you have:
- Master's or Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (mechanical/electrical maintenance; board, paper, tissue or pulp manufacturing processes).
- 5+ years of experience in similar leadership roles.
- A natural leader who inspires teams and drives results.
- Deep understanding of maintenance operations within the board/paper/tissue/pulp industry.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder‑management skills.
- Entrepreneurial mindset with a passion for making things happen.
- Solid Excel skills - you can turn data into insights, not just spreadsheets.
- Good awareness of local regulations - including safety, Labor requirements, maintenance‑related standards, and compliance expectations relevant to industrial operations.
- And when needed, you're not afraid to put on overalls and be right there where the maintenance work happens in the customer's process - leading by example and staying close to the reality of the operation.
- Fluent in Finnish and English.
