We are now looking for a Senior Manager, Communications to our Communications and Brand team to support our Innovation communications and position UPM through proactive international media work. This position is located at our headquarters in Helsinki, Finland.

What you will do
As Senior Manager, Communications, you will lead strategic communications planning for UPM's innovation agenda, shaping strategic messaging and narrative, and implementing external and internal communication activities in support of UPM's Innovation strategy. In addition, you will actively contribute to positioning UPM's growth business with the focus on biobased chemicals and fuels towards global media and policy decision makers.
As a member of the Group Communications and Brand team, you will also contribute to UPM's overall communications strategy, narrative and action plans. You will drive the team's international media outreach, including pitching, content creation and building relationships with key journalists in priority markets.
This is a strategic role with broad visibility across the company, but it also requires a strong hands‑on approach. In addition to high-level strategy development in your area, you will have the primary responsibility for its implementation including translating plans into action, content creation, refining approaches based on outcomes, and ensuring consistent execution.
In this position you will:
- Develop and implement strategic communications and narrative innovation, ensuring compelling and consistent messaging that supports UPM's strategic priorities
- Translate communications strategies into action by driving execution from planning and content creation to evaluation and continuous improvement
- Build and manage a content plan and continuous content pipeline to ensure a steady flow of impactful, high‑quality communications
- Executive communications, including presentations and preparing messaging and materials that strengthen leadership visibility
- Proactively pitch stories to international media to strengthen UPM's reputation in key markets
- Monitor media coverage and analyze performance to support continuous improvement
- Develop and run a spokesperson program, including training and advising spokespersons
Who you are
- You have a university degree and 10+ years of experience in strategic communications and issues management
- You have experience in working in global companies and creating content for international audiences, experience in the industrial or technology sector is a plus
- You have demonstrated experience in international media work and experience from communicating complex topics to media, with a track record of consistently successful media pitching
- You have excellent skills and proven experience of writing speeches and making presentations for executives
- You have a proven capability of turning company strategy and versatile topics into compelling, audience relevant messages and presentations
- You have experience working in a publicly listed company and understand regulations related to listed companies in Finland
- You have experience in utilizing AI tools and robust view of the potential of AI in communications
- You have exceptional written and editorial English skills, at the level of a proficient communications professional. Proficiency in German and/or Finnish is a plus
- You are a team player who naturally builds networks within the company and cooperates with others
