Senior Software Developer

We are now looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join Aufwin Defence Systems

In this role, you will play a key part in designing and developing next-generation defence software platforms that enable seamless interoperability between multiple systems, organizations, and operational domains.

You will contribute to the development of open architecture solutions that connect sensors, command-and-control systems, autonomous platforms, simulation environments, data services, and decision-support capabilities into unified and scalable operational ecosystems.

The role combines software architecture, hands-on development, systems integration, DevSecOps, and advanced engineering practices. You will work in a multidisciplinary environment where software is a critical enabler of mission effectiveness, resilience, and operational agility.

As a senior member of the engineering team, you will help shape technical direction, mentor colleagues, and contribute to building reusable capabilities that can be deployed across multiple defence programs and customer environments.

You will work closely with software engineers, systems engineers, security specialists, AI developers, customers, and our strategic partners.

Work tasks

As a Senior Software Engineer, your responsibilities will include:

  • Designing and architecting open architecture software platforms and System-of-Systems solutions
  • Developing reusable software components, APIs, middleware, and integration services
  • Building scalable software frameworks that support multiple products, programs, and customer environments
  • Designing interfaces between command-and-control systems, sensors, autonomous platforms, Battle Management Systems  and external partners
  • Developing distributed, cloud-native, edge-computing, and mission-critical software solutions
  • Working with real-time data streams, data fusion, messaging frameworks, and decision-support systems
  • Developing and maintaining DevSecOps and CI/CD pipelines for secure and reliable software delivery
  • Collaborating with systems engineering teams to translate operational requirements into technical solutions in close collaboration with very experienced defence specialists
  • Ensuring cybersecurity, resilience, and interoperability are integrated into system architectures
  • Supporting system integration, verification, validation, and deployment activities
  • Troubleshooting and solving complex technical challenges across large-scale integrated systems
  • Contributing to software quality, coding standards, architecture governance, and engineering best practices
  • Supporting and mentoring other engineers while contributing to a strong technical culture
  • Participating in customer engagement, technical workshops, demonstrations, and proof-of-concept activities

 We are looking for

  • Proven experience designing and architecting large-scale software solutions intended for reuse across multiple products, programs, or operational environments
  • Strong hands-on software engineering skills and the ability to write, review, and debug production-quality code
  • Experience with software architecture, distributed systems, and service-oriented or microservice-based architectures
  • Strong programming skills in Python, C++, React and TypeScript, and similar modern software development languages
  • Experience in developing APIs, integration platforms, middleware, and software frameworks
  • Knowledge of cloud-native technologies, containerization, and orchestration platforms such as Docker and Kubernetes
  • Experience with DevSecOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and modern software delivery processes
  • Understanding of systems engineering principles and complex systems integration
  • Experience working with data-intensive, mission-critical, or high-availability software environments
  • Familiarity with cybersecurity principles and secure software development practices
  • Experience with message-oriented architectures, event-driven systems, and real-time data processing is considered an advantage
  • Experience in defence, aerospace, security, autonomous systems, telecommunications, industrial systems, or other highly regulated technology sectors is considered an advantage
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills
  • Full working proficiency in English
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Finnish security clearance
