Why we are creating this role - a note from our CTO 

Hello, my name is Mika Vänskä. I head our technology unit, and I am looking for a Chief Architect to report directly to me, join our unit's steering group, and help lead our entire technology team together as a trusted partner. 

As we expand our international footprint and scale our operations, we are redefining and opening our Chief Architect company-wide position to the market for the first time in over three decades. This is a Veikkaus-level technology leadership appointment. As our Chief Architect, your mandate and technical steering will span our entire corporate landscape, unifying our world-class gaming platforms and our enterprise systems under a single, coherent vision. 

Crucially, you will not be working in a vacuum. We already have a strong, highly capable foundation of talented architects and lead developers across our teams. Your job is to bring this community together, respect their deep expertise, and lead them toward a unified technical vision. 

While you will oversee our company-wide enterprise systems to ensure they support our broader operations, your primary focus and the critical core of your work will be our gaming platforms and core product R&D. That is where our business lives and grows, and that is where your passion for high-performing systems will make the most impact. 

While our broader corporate ecosystem spans a diverse portfolio of 500+ systems across different lifecycles, our proprietary IP and core gaming platforms are fully modernized. We operate on a multi-cloud foundation (primarily AWS and GCP), having successfully completed our cloud transition several years ago. We take a disciplined, highly professional approach to engineering - specifically regarding modern AI integration and the agentic development lifecycle (ADLC) - ensuring our technical future is built on sustainable, high-standard engineering rather than short-lived technical trends. 

I am not looking for a "yes-person" who simply rubber-stamps existing ideas, but rather a highly capable partner who brings their own strong technical convictions, challenges our thinking, and has the grit to steer our most critical technical goals. Your role and key priorities 

Your main goal is to elevate and scale our proactive technical steering across our entire product portfolio. We want to ensure that our architects, lead developers, and business partners work closely together to co-create, shape, and align our future technical direction right from the start. 

• You will lead the architectural vision for our entire company-wide technology, keeping our high-volume gaming engines and product platforms as the absolute centerpieces of your work 
• You will translate complex technical architecture into clean, elegant, and highly readable architecture descriptions that bring instant clarity to developers, business stakeholders, and board members alike. 
• You will work together with our lead developers and domain architects to proactively align and steer development plans during agile planning cycles, ensuring our core R&D organization operates with a shared, forward-looking technical roadmap. 
• You will develop collaborative guidelines and practices that help architects and engineering teams align design choices early, ensuring our architecture has a strong, proactive impact on our product implementations. 
• You will transform our architecture board into an engaging, peer-driven forum where our talented internal architects and lead developers engage in genuine, constructive technical debate and peer reviews. 
• You will personally own our strategic architectural choices and lead our internal and partner team architectures, taking direct accountability for our deliverables instead of relying on external consultants. 
• You will act as an AI-savvy pioneer by using modern AI tools to streamline architectural workflows and helping us advance our overall AI engineering capabilities. 

Your background and expertise 

We are looking for a technical leader who can gain the trust of our engineering teams and align our technology roadmap with our core gaming business. 

• You have a strong background in modern software product development and R&D organizations, meaning you are intimately familiar with high-performance transactional systems, cloud platform engineering, or high-volume product architectures - regardless of your industry background. 
• You are familiar with the enterprise systems domain and understand how these platforms must support the broader organization without distracting from our core product focus. 
• You maintain an active, hands-on understanding of cloud-native designs, modern platform engineering, and data-driven systems, allowing you to establish high credibility with our developers and design a scalable tech stack for the future. 
• You are an active listener and a collaborative facilitator who respects the deep expertise of our existing architects and lead developers, actively gathering their feedback and co-creating solutions rather than imposing top-down decisions. 
• You are an engaging and natural communicator who speaks with clarity and confidence, presents technical concepts effortlessly without reading from a script, and actively listens to the needs and feedback of others. 
• You are highly execution-oriented and possess a proven ability to turn new ideas into finished, successful systems by driving cross-functional alignment. 
• You are proficient in utilizing generative AI tools in your daily work and are eager to work with our teams to explore new frontiers in AI engineering. 
• You have a strong advantage if you bring previous experience in managing and coaching other architects, although this is not a strict requirement. 
• We recognize that deep gaming domain experience is rare in Finland due to our long-standing market history, which is why we warmly welcome international candidates and are fully prepared to support your relocation to Helsinki.

We work in a hybrid model. To foster collaboration and effective teamwork, we meet at the office in Pohjois-Haaga, Helsinki three times a week. The position is permanent and full-time.
