Chief Design Engineer, Algorithms & AI
to work in Ponsse Technology, R&D, Control systems team in Finland.

We are seeking an experienced and innovative Chief Design Engineer, Algorithm & AI to lead our algorithm development and AI initiatives. This role offers the opportunity to solve the unique challenges of one of the most advanced work machines throughout the industries.
We are looking for a visionary and technically proficient Chief Design Engineer to oversee the development, optimization and implementation of our algorithms together with integrating AI solutions.
You will drive a team of talented engineers, collaborate with other teams across R&D organization and guide the strategic direction of integrating AI and machine learning technologies within the Ponsse R&D/Control Systems. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of robotics, control system design, foundation knowledge of AI/ML principles and life cycle, a proven track record of leadership in research and development and a passion for innovation.
Key Responsibilities:

Lead the design and development of advanced algorithms to solve complex challenges that bring the most value to our customers.

Provide technical direction and mentorship to a team of software and machine control engineers. The position includes a product owner role in scrum framework.

Oversee the end-to-end process of AI model development, from research and prototype to deployment and optimization.

Insight for creating technology and solution roadmap for Algorithm and AI development.

Collaborate with product management and other engineering teams to align initiatives with business objectives.

Follow the latest developments in machine automation algorithms and machine learning.
What do we expect from you?

Master's or PhD in computer science, control engineering, mathematics or a related field.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think strategically and make data-driven decisions. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills (in English or Finnish) to effectively collaborate with stakeholders across the organization.

Proven experience with at least 5 years in a leadership or senior engineering role in software development.

Good understanding of control system design and potential AI/ML applications in robotics control.

Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, C++, C# or similar, with knowledge in AI/ML libraries and frameworks (TensorFlow, PyTorch, etc.). Experience in Matlab/Simulink environment is valued.

Experience in cloud technologies, big data platforms and distributed computing is a plus.

Knowledge of ROS2 and simulation tools is a plus.
