Barona Engineering is looking for a Licensing & Safety Manager for its client Calogena, part of the Gorgé industrial group. Calogena is pioneering the future of carbon-free district heating through small modular nuclear reactors (SMRs). The company’s CAL30 (35 MW) and CAL90 (105 MW) modular plants are designed to deliver safe, sustainable heat to urban networks. Following the opening of Calogena’s Helsinki office in 2024, the company is strengthening its team with a key expert in nuclear licensing and safety.
Responsibilities
About the Role
As Licensing & Safety Manager, you will play a critical role in ensuring compliance with Finnish nuclear regulations and guiding Calogena’s innovative SMR technology through the licensing process. You will be the key interface between Calogena, Finnish authorities (especially STUK), and engineering teams in France. This is a hands-on expert role with strategic impact, offering the opportunity to shape the future of nuclear heat production in Finland.
Your Responsibilities
-
Lead licensing and safety processes for Calogena’s SMR projects in Finland.
-
Prepare and review nuclear safety documentation, including safety analysis reports.
-
Act as the primary liaison with STUK and other regulatory bodies.
-
Integrate Finnish nuclear requirements into design and project planning.
-
Coordinate with internal teams and external partners to ensure compliance and timely delivery.
-
Represent Calogena in related discussions with clients and stakeholders.
- Contribute to the development of licensing strategies for future operations
What We’re Looking For
-
Proven experience in nuclear licensing and safety, ideally with exposure to STUK processes.
-
Strong background in nuclear engineering or related field.
-
Familiarity with Finnish nuclear laws and regulatory frameworks.
-
Ability to communicate effectively with authorities and international teams.
-
Strategic mindset combined with hands-on approach.
-
Fluent in Finnish and English; French is an advantage.
- Willingness to travel (initially frequent trips to France).
Why Join Calogena?
Calogena is not a start-up – the company is backed by a strong industrial group committed to long-term investment. You will join a small, agile team in Helsinki with the support of an experienced international organization. This is a unique opportunity to work on groundbreaking technology that will reduce CO₂ emissions and transform district heating in Finland.
We offer:
• Hybrid work model (minimum 3 days/week at Helsinki office)
• International exposure and career growth opportunities
