**About the Role**
Maculaser is growing its core R&D team with a highly motivated R&D Engineer / Optical Engineer. The ideal candidate brings experience in optical systems design, systems engineering or product development, preferably in medical technology or a related field, and a hands-on background in hardware development. The position is primarily on-site at our office in Keilaniemi, Espoo, with flexibility for occasional remote work.
**Responsibilities**
You will work hands-on in the development of our next-generation ophthalmic products, ensuring they meet customer and regulatory requirements. Your responsibilities will span the entire design and development process, including conceptual design, prototyping, testing, validation, and product implementation. You will design and implement new devices and their subsystems. You will conduct feasibility studies and design optimization to improve the effectiveness and safety of the technologies used in our devices. You will participate in creating, developing, and maintaining engineering documentation, such as work instructions, component specifications/drawings, test procedures, and reports.
While your primary focus is optics, you will need to take into account how optical systems interact with other parts of our products, such as electronics, biosignal recording, signal processing, data analysis, and software.
You will work closely with our CTO and the rest of the R&D team to ensure that R&D projects meet quality, regulatory, customer, and business objectives. Key R&D activities are conducted in-house, but we also collaborate with external partner companies and networks.
**Qualifications**
- A degree in Engineering Physics, Photonics, Biomedical Engineering, or Life Science Technologies, or equivalent knowledge
- Strong understanding of optics and engineering principles
- Experience in developing complex engineering products involving both hardware and software
- Demonstrated engineering curiosity and problem-solving skills
- A self-starter who learns quickly
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Proficiency in written technical English
