Scientist, AI image analysis

Are you passionate about advancing science and making a real impact on human health? We are looking for an innovative, scientifically oriented and collaborative individual to join the VivoScience unit at R&D and Innovative Medicines organisation in Turku, Finland, for a fixed-term 18 month position.

Your role

This role includes AI project management, strategic planning for AI model development, resource and digital image management, model validation and testing, and cross-team communication. Your work will directly support Orion Pharma's core therapy areas Pain and Oncology.

You will be part of a multidisciplinary team, contributing from early-stage discovery through translational and early clinical development to support broader scientific and strategic goals. Responsibilities

  • Manage AI image analysis projects and advance strategies to AI image analysis development for histology images.
  • Conduct histological image annotations, model validation and rigorous testing of developed models.
  • Build and manage image and AI model databases.
  • Identify, evaluate and implement new technologies and external partners to enhance image analysis capabilities.
  • Contribute to large-scale, multi-partner image analysis initiatives (national and European-level consortia).
  • Onboarding and education of personnel on the use of image analysis software.
  • Independently generate, analyse, and report high-quality scientific data.
  • Collaborate with other scientists, project team members, veterinarians, and other research personnel to implement plans, interpret data, and contribute to project strategies.
  • Oversee and provide technical guidance for work conducted in external laboratories and CROs related to image analysis tasks.

What are we looking for?

We're seeking a candidate with the following qualifications and experience:

  • MSc in Biomedical Sciences, Computational Biology or a related field with relevant experience (min. 3-5 years).
  • Independently design, conduct and develop AI-based histological image analysis projects, including writing protocols and reports.
  • Biological understanding of tissue and cellular structures.
  • Planning, conducting and documenting AI model validation and testing. 
  • Routine use of microscopes, imaging systems, and image analysis software.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead development projects, meet performance targets, and contribute to project success.
  • Excellent oral and written communication, interpersonal and analytical skills.
  • Attention to detail, ability to solve problems and develop innovative scientific solutions.
  • Experience in agile project management, developing and maintaining generalizable AI models, and the use of Aiforia software is beneficial.

We support all Orion Pharma therapy areas oncology and pain.
