We are looking for a
Master's Thesis Worker, Perception
to join Normet's Technology team in Tampere, on 4.5.-31.12.2026.
This thesis focuses on advancing perception capabilities for underground mobile machinery. You will explore, design, and implement software components that improve environmental understanding using sensors such as cameras, LiDAR, radar, and sensor fusion. Your work contributes directly to Normet's future autonomy and operator‑assistance systems.
Main responsibilities and tasks:

Research state-of-the-art perception technologies
-
Implement prototype algorithms in Python/C++
-
Process and analyze multimodal sensor datasets
-
Evaluate performance, robustness, and limitations
-
Document findings and present results to Architecture & Systems Engineering team

Optional: integrate your work into simulation environments or real machines
To shine in this position, we hope you have:

Ongoing M.Sc. studies in robotics, computer vision, machine learning, software engineering, automation, or similar

Solid programming skills (Python required; C++ is a plus)

Interest in sensors (camera, LiDAR, radar) and perception algorithms

Curiosity, structured problem‑solving, and willingness to learn
-
Ability to work independently as well as with our perception and systems engineers

Capability to communicate in English, both spoken and written
