Veikkaus is embarking on its most significant transformation yet. As we prepare for the opening of the Finnish licensing market in 2027 and rapidly expand our international presence, data and AI are at the absolute core of our strategy.

We are looking for a Senior Data Scientist to take a key role in leading the development of advanced personalization and recommendation models within our AI Capabilities team. You will design and deploy machine learning solutions that improve customer experience across our digital channels and drive measurable business impact. You will also act as a senior mentor and technical counselor for other data scientists, setting standards for model development, evaluation and deployment.

Your key responsibilities:

• Personalization & Recommendation Systems: Lead the development of production-grade recommendation and personalization models across our digital channels, deployed in real-time production environments.
• Customer Lifecycle & Engagement: Build solutions for content ranking, churn prediction, cross-sell/up-sell, and personalized experiences in a responsible gaming context.
• Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with engineering and product teams to integrate and deploy models into scalable real-time systems.
• Technical Leadership & Mentoring: Mentor other data scientists and drive best practices in ML development, MLOps, code quality, and model evaluation.
• Experimentation & Business Impact: Design and analyze A/B tests and translate business goals into measurable data science outcomes.
• Innovation & GenAI: Explore new approaches in recommender systems, Generative AI, and responsible AI practices.
   

We’d love to hear from you if you have:

• 5+ years of experience in data science, with a strong focus on building and deploying recommendation systems or personalization solutions in production environments (e.g., e-commerce, gaming, media).
• Deep understanding of machine learning algorithms and techniques (e.g., matrix factorization, neural networks for recommendations, RL, causal inference).
• Solid Python skills and experience with modern ML frameworks (e.g. PyTorch, TensorFlow).
• Good SQL skills and experience working with large-scale data in cloud environments (e.g. Snowflake/BigQuery).
• Familiarity with MLOps concepts and tools (e.g. model versioning, CI/CD for ML, monitoring; experience with Azure/AWS/GCP is a plus).
• Track record of mentoring junior/mid-level data scientists, leading technical initiatives, and connecting ML work to business KPIs.
• Strong problem-solving skills, business acumen, and a proactive “can-do” attitude.
• A relevant education (e.g. degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics or related field).
• Excellent English communication skills, both written and spoken.
   

Considered an advantage:

• Experience with Generative AI (LLMs) and its applications in personalization.
• Experience in the gambling or gaming industry.
• Knowledge of Responsible Gaming principles and how to apply them in AI models.
• Understanding of AI governance and ethical AI practices.

The position is located at Veikkaus’ headquarters in Pohjois-Haaga, Helsinki. We work flexibly in a hybrid model. To foster collaboration and effective teamwork, we meet at the office three times a week.
